MONUC assists DR Congo army in disarming LRA
Kinshasa, R.D. Congo, 5 October 2005: Some 300 commando troops of the Congolese Armed Forces are being airlifted from Aru, 150 km north east of Bunia, to the northern locality of Aba by the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Supported by a MONUC MI-25 attack helicopter, the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo are also deploying ground troops in Garamba National Park ' close to the border with Sudan ' where LRA elements are reported to have splintered.

Kinshasa, D.R Congo, 14 June 2005: A UN peacekeeper of the Indian battalion of MONUC Kivu Brigade died, on June 13, at the Mission's military hospital in Goma, the provincial capital of North Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He was seriously injured, earlier on the same day, near the locality of Sake, 30 kilometres west of Goma

Kinshasa, DR. Congo, 3 June 2005: A Nepalese peacekeeper of MONUC Ituri Brigade died yesterday, Thursday 2 June, at around midnight, at the Mission's military hospital in Bunia, the administrative town of the district of Ituri, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The peacekeeper was seriously injured at Rakpa, a locality situated 65 km North East of Bunia, whilst the platoon under his command was securing the take-off of a helicopter transporting MONUC civilian staff.

On 12 May 2005, at 14: 15, a patrol composed of about 40 Blue helmets from the Bangladeshi contingent of the Ituri Brigade were ambushed by a group of 20 armed elements who opened fire on the patrol. The Blue helmets responded.

Monuc's Ituri Brigade conducts joint operation with the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Congo, 26 April 2005: During the night of 22 April, Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) troops based in Kagaba, 37 kilometres south of Bunia, in the country?s north-east district of Ituri, came under attack by a group of armed elements. These elements were remnants of the former FRPI/FNI militias, with women, children and inhabitants of the surrounding villages accompanying them in the attacks that continued through 23 April. Immediately, the Ituri Brigade of MONUC set up a military operation to back up the FARDC.
