The HIV/AIDS Office operates under the guidance of the NY-HQ DPKO Policy Advisor, who maintains global oversight on the activities of the HIV/AIDS in peacekeeping operations and provides overall direction for administrative, policy and budget issues in field missions. At Mission level, the Office falls under the direct supervision of the DSRSG.

As of January 2009, the HIV/AIDS office has a total strength of 10 personnel, with a perfect gender balance (5M,5F) composed of the Policy Advisor, the Administrative Assistant, the Media Relations Officer, the Research and Planning Officer, Community Relations Officer, Community Relations Assistant, three Training Officers deployed in Bunia, Goma and Bukavu and the Driver/Messenger.
