MONUC welcomes the arrest of two FDLR leaders by Germany

 

Kinshasa 19 November 2009 - The United Nations Organization Mission in DR Congo (MONUC) today welcomed reports of the arrest by German Federal Police of two FDLR leaders currently residing in the country namely Ignace Murwanashyaka and Straton Musoni on Tuesday on suspicion of carrying out crimes against humanity and war crimes in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

MONUC Rejects irresponsible allegations published by New Times of Kigali


Kinshasa, 6 November 2009 - The United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC) denies categorically the irresponsible and unfounded allegations of cooperating with the FDLR in an article published in today’s New Times in Kigali. The article, alleging cooperation between MONUC and the FDLR, has absolutely no basis in fact and violates in every respect the norms of ethical and professional journalism.

MONUC welcomes call for more civilian protection capacity

 

Kinshasa, 15 October 2009 -- The United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC) welcomed the statement issued on 13 October by a coalition of 84 humanitarian and human rights groups calling on the international community to provide the Mission with additional resources to protect civilians in the eastern DRC.

MONUC opens an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct by two of its personnel

 

Kinshasa 25 September 2009 – MONUC has just been aware of allegations of sexual misconduct by two of its personnel in North Kivu. Every allegation of this kind is taken seriously by MONUC. A team is already in place to open an immediate inquiry and establish the facts.

SRSG welcomes new army barracks for FARDC under construction in Bukavu

 

Kinshasa, 18 september 2009 - Work is advancing rapidly on a joint project to construct army barracks at camp Saio in Bukavu, eastern Congo, to house some 3,500 FARDC troops and their dependents.

Kinshasa 27 August 2009 – An advanced team of 10 officers and 178 troops from the Bangladeshi army arrived in Bunia, district of Ituri yesterday Wednesday 26 August ahead of a new contingent which will be part of the 3000 additional troops authorized by the Security Council in December 2009 to deploy in DRC.
